Woman of the Year 2015
Updated: Apr 14, 2020
As I sit here and reflect on the last few months of my undergraduate career, I am so incredibly humbled and honored to have been chosen as HerCampus American's 2015 Woman of the Year for the Kogod School of Business. I cannot think of a better way to have ended my college career at American University and transition into the next chapter of my life. HerCampus facilitated the nominations of women from each of the 5 schools at American University. Along with American University administrators, HerCampus selected the Women of the Year based on the following criteria: Concern for social engagement within AU and local communities, strong commitment to academics and application beyond the classroom, willingness to share her understanding with the wider community, drive to help other women by devoting time and energy to the progress of women, and consistently striving to be a trailblazer in the field she is most passionate about. HerCampus is "the #1 global community for college women. Written entirely by the world's top college journalists – with 6,000+ contributors and counting – HerCampus.com features national Style, Beauty, Health, Love, Life, Career, LGBTQ+, High School, and Real World content supplemented by local content from 270+ campus chapters nationwide and in seven countries".
The thing that makes me so proud of this award is the fact that I have been trying, through Styled by Olivia, to inspire women to look and feel their best and this award showed me that I truly am able to make a difference by inspiring others. That is the entire point of Styled by Olivia and knowing that so many of my peers thought enough of me to nominate me as Woman of the Year is both humbling and motivating. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to nominate me for this award. And thank you again to the amazing staff at HerCampus American for putting together such an amazing reception to honor all of the Women of the Year. It means the world to me to know that I am able to be a positive influence in the life of even one person. I will strive to continue to motivate and inspire others because I truly do believe that everyone deserves to feel beautiful, regardless of what they are wearing. xo
Photo Shoot Outfit of the Day HerCampus American had a photo shoot for each Woman of the Year to accompany the articles published on their website highlighting each woman (my article can be found here). Below is the outfit I decided to wear for the shoot. I wanted to keep it classic so I opted for a nude pink dress with white lace detail. My philosophy, particularly when I know I am going to be photographed, is to keep it simple. My go to colors are always nudes, pinks, and black. Knowing what colors and combinations of colors work best for you will make it easier to not only get dressed for any occasion, but to build your wardrobe as well.
